Fix Auto USA Helps Provide Car to Family in Need
There are many worthy vehicle donation programs throughout the U.S., and Wheels of Hope is one of them. As part of Fix Auto USA’s commitment to community involvement, Fix Auto The Dalles; The Dalles, Oregon, recently supported a Wheels of Hope event that provided much needed transportation to a single mother and her family.
Destiny Whitaker of Hood River, Oregon, was recently divorced earlier this year when her vehicle broke down. With almost no money to repair it, she had nowhere to turn for reliable transportation. When friends and neighbors nominated Destiny as a potential Wheels of Hope recipient, she was awarded a family van by the charitable organization, providing a much-needed boost to her family during a difficult year.
Providing Charity with Dignity
Based in Florissant, Missouri, Wheels of Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable cars to individuals and families in need of basic transportation. Unlike other charities that give their cars away, Wheels of Hope offers vehicles to needy individuals at greatly discounted prices. This approach shows a measure of respect to the recipients and helps to protect their dignity.
Here’s how it works: people donate their used cars to Wheels of Hope. If the automobiles are economically repairable, Wheels of Hope makes any repairs needed to get the cars back on the road and operating safely. Once a vehicle is fixed, Wheels of Hope sells the vehicle at their cost – which covers the price of insurance, inspections, and replacement parts – to a qualifying needy individual.
